The Domaine La Louvière is situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees near Malviès, about 30 kms south-west of Carcassonne. The variety of micro-climates in the Malepère range of hills produces a wide ecological diversity associating Mediterranean and Atlantic vegetation with Almond, Olive, Chestnut and Walnut trees growing on the property's lands. Just as numerous different plants grow in this area, the wide range of grape varieties benefits from the soil's minerality and the unique climatic conditions, producing wines which reflect their terroir with a complex, rounded style associating structure and softness. The Malepère appellation, located in the western area of the Languedoc region has gained considerable notoriety recently. Between the Canal du Midi and the Pyrenees, this terroir has surprised wine enthusiasts for its style recalling wines from the south-western of France, its soft light reflecting the countryside shaped by the climate over the years with a rich cultural and historic heritage (notably the Cathar castles). The woods in the heart of the Malepère represent a preserved natural sanctuary culminating at 442 metres, surrounded by vineyards covering gentle slopes of clay and sandstone terraces. This is the only Languedoc Appellation d’Origine in which south-western grape varieties compose the main proportion of blends. The combined influences of Atlantic and Mediterranean climates with the effects of fresh winds from the Pyrenean foothills enable the Domaine to culture a variety of grapes such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Syrah and Malbec. This biological diversity enables the domaine to produce wines which are highly original in style.
