Valérie TABARIES and Dominique IBANEZ created the Domaine de Roquemale in 2001 on the basis of 11 hectares of vines near the village Villeveyrac, west of Montpellier. Their aim is to produce sincere, easy drinking wines for immediate pleasure. Their first cuvée from the Appellation Grés de Montpellier comforted them in this choice of style, the blend of Syrah and Grenache developing a wine which is full bodied and rich with wonderful scents of garrigues and ripe fruit.
ROQUEMALE means, in local dialect, « Bad rock », infact a considerable advantage for the domaine's vines which produce low yields and wines which are rich and well concentrated. The vines, between 15 and 60 years old, produce yields of approximately 30HL / hectare.
The soils are mainly clay and limestone with a high proportion of stones and elements of Bauxite. This area is part of the appellation 'Grès de Montpellier' classified zone characterised by maritime climatic influences with fresh nights and warm daytime temperatures which allow grapes to attain, progressively, optimum ripeness.
All of the domaine's vines are cultivated and the grapes vinified organically enabling certification by AB ECOCERT since 2008.
