Château Rives-Blanques, Occitania Mauzac 2016
€13.70
Occitania is unusually well suited to ‘difficult’ food combinations, such as salads, asparagus, artichokes and so on, and happily accompanies Asian as well as European food. It is a unique wine, being the first and until very recently, the only modern Mauzac bottled under the Limoux label.

Details

Château Rives-Blanques is named after one of the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees dominating its horizon. The domaine is located 20 minutes away from two major World Heritage sites : the spectacular medieval walled city of Carcassonne and the famous Canal du Midi. The landscape is an unspoilt composition of vineyards jostling with sunflowers fields and fruit trees with the Pyrenees as an impressive backdrop. The domaine is well known for methods which protect the environment and is officially recognised for the reasoned treatment of their vines. Mauzac, Limoux's indigenous grape, is difficult to vinify as an interesting still wine for the same reasons that make it such a good base for sparkling wines: high acidity and a fairly neutral taste. By encouraging the Mauzac on the lowest south-facing slopes to reach an unusually high level of ripeness, the Domaine Rives Blanques is able to produce this unique dry, fresh still wine.
