Details

Château La Liquière, located near Cabrerolles in the Hérault department, covers 60 hectares of Faugères AOC classified vineyards. Situated in the North-Western area of the appellation, the vineyards climb steep slopes between 150 and 350 metres in altitude. The warm Mediterranean climate is freshened with two alternating winds, the 'Tramontane' and the 'Marin'. The Château, owned by the Vidal-Dumoulin family for the last 3 generations, is located on a schistous terroir. These soils have ancient geological origins and are derived from the compression of clay during the formation of the Massif Central resulting from primary era sea bed deposits. They have a good filtration capacity which ensures a well regulated supply of moisture. They have a low fertility potential and are very acidic.

The terroir's landscapes are beautiful with shiny silver soils and rock in some places, grey ou blueish in others, sometimes ochre, often crumbly, foliated in thin slices or dense, smooth to touch. Accumulating heat during the daytime, the soil returns it to the vines during the fresher hours of the night with beneficial effects for the ripening of grapes. The domaine has two vinification cellars, one of which is an old building, equipped with underground tanks which can be filled by gravity, thereby avoiding pumping of the grape harvests. The second, modern cellar is highly functional, equipped with tanks and barrels of many different volume capacities : 225 litre barrels, 600 litre 'demi-muids'... These allow excellent conditions for maturing and refining the domaine's wines. The vineyard is undergoing conversion to organic viticulture (Ecocert).
