From the beginning, Caraguilhes covered an area of some 600 unbroken hectares in the Corbières area. Remarkably, over the course of history, the domain of Caraguilhes has remained intact.

In 1958, Lionel Faivre, an established wine grower in Algeria, took over Caraguilhes with a vision to make authentic wine with organic grapes.  An environmentalist, Lionel pioneered natural farming and wine-making practices by employing sustainable organic techniques.  His refusal to use chemical fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides was almost unheard of at the time. Nearly thirty years later, he completed the final transformation of Caraguilhes into full organic production.

By 1998, Lionel, growing old, decided he could not leave the daunting task of caring for the vast Caraguilhes domain to his children and regretfully made the decision to sell the vineyard to Pierre Gabison. Pierre’s aim is to produce uncompromising quality wine from healthy vines which offer a natural expression of the domain’s unique terroir.
