Details
Borie la Vitarèle was created in 1990 by Jean-François Izarn and represents a 16 ha vineyard located on gravel, slate, clay and limestone soils. The Domaine is situated near Saint-Chinian (north of Béziers) in the Languedoc region. The main priority of Jean-François Izarn is to produce wines with affirmed personalities which reflect faithfully the vineyards and soils from which they are produced. Each of his cuvées represents a specific terroir and is vinified separately. His constant concern is to preserve the quality of the fruit and the balance and originality of each vineyard's soil. Vines are cultivated according to natural methods (AB label – organic culture).
The slate terroir of Borie la Vitarèle is situated near the village of Saint Nazaire de Ladarez. Vines are planted on steep slopes on sheet slate and sandstone - slate rock. This type of soil forces vines to develop their roots deep into the ground which avoids them suffering from the summer draught of the hot Mediterranean climate. The elegance and refinement of the domaine's wines are typical of this type of terroir.
